Terms of Use
These terms govern your use of the HTJ.tax website, the information published on it, and the chat and messaging tools available through it.
HTJ.tax ("the firm", "we", "us" or "our") publishes this website to share general information about US and international tax. By using this site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.
Information, Not Advice
Everything published on this site is general information. It is not tax, legal, accounting, investment or immigration advice, and it is not a substitute for advice given to you personally after a review of your own circumstances.
Tax rules differ by country, by state and by individual situation, and they change. Information that is correct for one person may be wrong for another, and information that was correct when it was published may since have changed. You should not act, or decide not to act, on the basis of anything on this site without taking advice on your own facts.
No Client Relationship
Using this site, reading our material, or exchanging messages with us through the site does not make you a client of the firm and does not create a professional relationship between us.
A professional relationship begins only when we have agreed the work in writing through an engagement letter signed by both sides. Until then, please do not send us confidential or sensitive information, and understand that anything you do send is not covered by the protections that apply once you are a client.
Chat and Automated Assistance
We make a chat assistant available on this site. Some or all of the replies you receive are generated automatically rather than typed by a member of our team. Where that is the case, the assistant will say so.
The assistant is there to help you find the right service, point you to the right page and pass your enquiry to our team. It gives general information only, on the same basis as the rest of this site. It does not give advice, it does not review your documents or your facts, and it cannot agree work or fees on our behalf.
Automated systems can be wrong or incomplete. Where anything the assistant tells you differs from this site, from an engagement letter, or from what our team tells you directly, the assistant is not the version that governs.
Fees Shown on This Site
Fees published on this site, or given to you by our chat assistant, are indicative starting points to help you judge whether the service fits your budget. They are not quotes and they are not offers.
What you pay depends on the facts of your matter, and the fee that applies to you is the one set out in your engagement letter. Where a service is priced on scope rather than at a set rate, we will tell you that and quote you individually.
Acceptable Use
You may read, print and share our material for your own personal or internal business use. You may not:
- Republish, resell or redistribute our material as your own, or present it as another firm's work
- Use the site or the chat assistant to send unlawful, abusive, misleading or infringing content
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, or interfere with its normal operation
- Scrape, harvest or bulk-copy the site by automated means without our written permission
We may withdraw access to the site or to the chat assistant where it is being misused.
Our Material
The content of this site, including our articles, guides, glossary, videos and the design of the site itself, belongs to us or to those who licensed it to us, and is protected by copyright and other rights. Our books remain the property of their publishers and authors and are subject to the terms of the store you buy them from.
Nothing on this site transfers any of those rights to you beyond the personal and internal use described above.
Other Sites We Link To
We link to other websites, including tax authority sites, booking and payment tools and online stores. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for their content, their availability or how they handle your information. Their own terms and privacy notices apply when you use them.
Availability
We aim to keep this site and its chat assistant available and accurate, but we do not promise that either will be uninterrupted, error free, or that the information on the site is complete or current at any given moment. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site at any time.
Our Responsibility to You
Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for fraud, for fraudulent misrepresentation, for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Subject to that, and because this site is provided free and for general information, our total responsibility to you arising out of your use of this site or the chat assistant is limited to one hundred euros (EUR 100). This limit applies to the site only. It does not apply to work we carry out for you under an engagement letter, where responsibility is governed by that letter instead.
This does not affect any rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded or limited by agreement.
Your Information
How we collect, use and protect personal information, including information you give us through the chat assistant, is set out in our Privacy Notice.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on this page is the one that applies, and the date it was last updated is shown at the foot of this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing Law
These terms, and any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of this site, are governed by the laws of Singapore.
